Economy X, Business Class & selected Velocity members:

  • Up to 2 bags (14kg combined, no single bag over 8kg)
  • Bag dimensions: 56cm × 36cm × 23cm each
  • Plus 1 personal item (max 45cm × 33cm × 20cm)

Checked Baggage

  • Domestic flights: Economy fares include 1 × 23kg checked bag; Business Class includes up to 32kg.
  • International flights: Economy fares typically include up to 30kg; premium cabins include up to 32kg.
  • Velocity Frequent Flyer members may enjoy additional checked baggage allowances depending on tier status.
  • Infant bookings include an allowance of up to 3 checked infant items (pram/stroller, portable cot, car seat, or baby capsule) plus 1 bag up to 23kg.

Excess baggage fees apply and vary by route and class of service. Pre-purchasing additional baggage online is usually more affordable than paying at the airport.

Pets in Cabin (Domestic Flights Only)

Virgin Australia now offers a Pets in Cabin service on select domestic routes, allowing small pets to travel with you in the cabin.

Key points:
  • Eligible pets: Small dogs or cats
  • Cats only permitted on Melbourne ↔ Sunshine Coast
  • Dogs permitted on Melbourne ↔ Gold Coast and Melbourne ↔ Sunshine Coast
  • Weight limit: Pet + carrier must be under 8kg
  • Carrier: Soft-sided, leak-proof carrier (max 44 × 26 × 28cm), stowed under the seat in front
  • Seating: Window seats only (rows 18A/F and 20A/F), max 4 pets per flight
  • Health & safety: Vaccinations required; some pets may need veterinary clearance. Pets under 8 weeks cannot travel.
  • Advanced air filtration reduces allergy risks; pets are not permitted in Virgin Australia lounges or food service areas.
